AI Agent Release Tools: Test, Review, and Ship Changes With Evidence

A practical guide to Git change summaries, bounded test runners, workspace snapshots, dependency impact analysis, and release readiness checks for AI coding agents.

A coding agent should not jump from an edit straight to a commit. It needs evidence at each transition: what changed, which verification ran, and whether the project is ready to release.

A bounded release loop

1. workspace_snapshot: record the starting state
2. git_change_summary: review staged and unstaged work
3. test_runner: run an allowlisted verification task
4. dependency_change_impact: inspect affected imports
5. release_readiness_check: check metadata before publishing

test_runner only exposes allowlisted test, lint, build, and type-check tasks and requires explicit execution confirmation. That keeps a useful verification capability separate from unrestricted shell access.

Why snapshots matter

workspace_snapshot produces a bounded manifest of Git state, selected file hashes, package manifests, and environment facts. Comparing snapshots helps an agent show exactly what changed across a multi-step task.
